Hi all,

i am think about a way to get the SAVE POINT locations from lesser succor or similar spell into the maps. Since Mapfiend has closed down there is no place to post such info.

There are imho two ways:

1. Post the loc of the SAVE POINT for each zone and everyone who wants it in his maps has to insert it byself

2. Put the Locations in the maps in CVS...

I have not updated my maps from CVS since last year. I updated the maps from MapFiend...

I think Just_A_Nut is doing updates to maps ... I can post the locs of all the SAVE POINTs i have found till now - not so much but growing ... i just a matter of time. :)

Perhaps someone has a better idea.

It's SAFE points, not SAVE points. And be aware that in some zones the safe point is not safe at all. :)

EQdruids has an article with the safe points for almost every zone.

Next time I'm online I'll write exact locs for a bunch of zones if that will help you.

Oh and you can get to safe points in some zones without a wiz/druid with the "ghetto succor" technique.

This means to camp while "inside" a wall several times. You do this till you get into the architechture of the wall. When you log back in the game sees you as "out of bounds" and puts you at the safe point.

Trick is most used in SG to get across to WW side. And in Velks Pits to get back out if you don't have someone to evac in group.

I can update my maps (from CVS) and either send them to the dev team for put into CVS or send to BA or another known name to keep a new map repository.

Ok to the work – I will work on the diff-patch :) , and try to get the missing locs as much i can.

I've made use of this listing of succor/evacuate locations, its been fairly reliable for me:

ok, BIG note... the Succor points are reversed in the .map file. I added a zone's point went there and when I went to that zone the map was all messed up. Looked around and realized the Succor point was off the map. Swapped the order, reloaded and it's wehre it should be.... No just shoving them in the files :>

That's because VI switched X and Y coords when you do a /loc. So their system is Y,X,Z, while most people (and the .map files) are used to X,Y,Z.

Yeah, just bit me after I modified all my files. I remember the reverse co-ordinates in the seq.conf file. Figured I'd make a note for those updating their own until we get the maps in CVS updated.

Last night I went through and finished updating and swapping. I'll upload the maps to CVS tomorrow afternoon if I can figure out how. (just never done it before)

I have made a shellscript to patch the maps and insert the Safepoint locations ... it will be perhaps quicker than getting the maps in CVS... ;)

I ll check the script again today evening and upload it then here..

Patched maps in CVS would be nice anyway :)

Yeah, I'd finished all mine. Got sucor points on 95% of the maps. Without thinking did a make install the next day and overwrote all my updates. Decided to vege and not scream...

Be advised in some zones the SAFE point is different depending on where you are in the zone.

Classic example. If you are in Sirens Grotto on the Cobolt Scar side you will succor to the Western Wastes zone line (20 feet from it or so) and if you are on the Western Wastes side you will succor to the Cobolt Scar zone line in SG.


Im sure there are others with this zone succor oddity.

Whoa! I gotta try that. I never thought VI would make such a thing.

Safe points are not just where you evac too, but also where you go if your char happened to "far under the world".

I've tested SG. There is only one safe point.

Evac did not take me from side to side. I even evac'd, and evac'd right away at the exact evac point. I stayed right there I was.

There is no such thing as a dual point evac zone, from what I've see.

Evac spells do not function like this. They have a set location for where they port you, regardless of where you are in the zone. SG certainly does not have 2 evac points. At the current time, there is only one "safe point" per zone.
