I was just wondering since the general feeling is that Sony is going to be compiling a database of people using popular key sniffer programs are there already some programs out there that do this? For a theoretical example. Might there be a program on the market already that can read memory and display the information needed for us to get the key? Like a utility program of some kind? Or perhaps a way to look at the memory using a utility already built into Windows XP Pro? Just curious as to if anybody out there smarter than I am thinks this might be an option? I mean after all can Sony really ban you for using a Windows utility or another popular Memory reading program that already exists on the market today?

Sure they can. Whether they face consequences or not for it is another story. Also, yes, there are thousends of the same program types out there that read memory and are widely installed. A short incomplete example list would be: anti-virus checkers, memory utilities (compressors etc.), debuggers...a lot.

I wouldn't think such a commercial application exists Hedge. Who is the target consumer of a memory sniffer? Hackers. Would hackers buy this? Probably not, they can write their own.

Basically what I'm saying is that there is no consumer base for an application of that nature.

My $0.02. Your mileage may vary.

Am I to understand that WinHex can be used to "sniff" the decryption key? If so, mind explaining how?

Lord Crush -- I figured it out. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to do it on my own.

I also appreciate the link you posted so that I will be able to check for the key location on my own without waiting for someone to post the info when SoE changes the key location...

It is pretty amazing what you can learn when you read carefully and don't become completely spoon fed.

I personally like to use WinHack (http://www.malinverni.com/download/down.asp?program=WH200.zip). It has a very nice and easy to follow GUI, but because of that at times I find it's performance lacking.
