I once used Seq, it was great. Only really used it on a hate raid. Then i took a break from EQ and anow i come back to find this key nonsense etc etc etc..

Well i have some questions:

1 When did this come in?
2 How come it broke the old way of doing things?
(how did seq work before compared to now)

and some programming questions
(I can program, not great at windows programming tho it shoudl be easy ot learn (I do have CS degree))

3 How are the keys stored/sent/generated by EQ?
4 How often do i have to update the key while playing?

If some could post a great answer to 3 it would help me a lot.
Problem i am having is i dont really understand the problem except we need the key to decrypt the packets.

If you use the forum search feature, you should be able to find tons of answers to your questions, source code, and the works.

Just curious about these things I have trolled for a while and cant find anything decent or what i am searching for doesnt seem to produce what i want.

oh and the you got to be kidding me guy. IM sorry that I am interested in the problem and am trying to help but I dont have a great grasp on the problem.

He was saying "You have to be kidding" because 90% of the threads written over the past 2 months have been about this topic. You need to read before you post. There is an ENTIRE FORUM of threads dedicated to this topic. We arent going to rehash the last 2 months of conversation for one person who doesnt want to read.

Well question 1 and 2 I can agree that i did read these things
(not directly but i got the gist of these things)

But 3 and 4 I was having trouble finding good answers for these questions and I have trolled this board and done searches not producing very much.

Can you point me to these threads then. Im just saying I would like to get involved. All I get as the first post is someone just being an ass. If you said there was more info or just said hey here is a thread I would head there.

My point was he could be nicer. I work/school 50-70 hours a week (trying ot finish and honors degree to start a masters) so i was asking for a little help. I dont see the harm.

Edit: just noted that i had the boards set to only display the last few days, ill turn that up to the begginning. and see what i troll then.

Well, I know that I personally have posted the answer to 3 and 4 atleast 5 times each. Other people have also posted them many times.

Step 1 to helping: Dont waste everyone elses time.
Step 2 to helping: Add something NEW to the discussion (which you cant do unless you already know what the discussion was).

If you are SO busy that you cant learn how things work all by yourself, then perhaps you are too busy to help out much.. If you think people here are being asses, I think you will find them much friendlier when you dont just wait for everyone else to run around finding your asnwers for you. All of your questions are answered in > 5 places... if you cant find them, you dont exactly inspire people to run around and help.. do some research.. all your answers are here.

Hehe...I still like that line in the FAQ...seems especially relevant to this particular thread.
=)

I wasnt call you an ass. I was just saying that he could have said in a nicer way. And as i keep mentioning I have trolled and I looked through some code.

From what I can determine you just read the key from memory.
ReadProcessMemory() i think it was. All I was really asking if something special had ot be done etc. Also I couldnt find anythign on who or what generates the key. and for 4 I was confused if it updated when zoning every now and then or never furing game play.

This jsut generally interests me because my CS / Math interests are in number theory and cryptography. SO I figured I would help because I enjoy the game every now and then, it is a nice break from real life. I wouldnt mind helping to create a specialised FAQ to elimnate people like me for this topic.

My point is my search strings didnt seem to produce overly relavent results to what i beleived was a good query.

And I did ask my question more general then i really needed to.

Interestingly enough, about 5 hours before your post above, you made a post to a thread (http://seq.sourceforge.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2327) that answers your question...

Not really, I understand the basics of PKI ,

Also I couldnt find anythign on who or what generates the key

Maybe i shoudl be clearer, much more so. I was assuming that the server for htat zones send the key to the client , EQ client stores this and we read it from memory. Just tell me is that right?

/sigh

server - public key -> client
client generates zone key, encrypt with Pub-Key -> Server
Zone data sym encryption with Key client <-> server

/em wonders how do you finish your degree with *that* reading skill < 20

But I have read everything here from the start I became obcessed with figuring out how to do it ...and all I can say is dude you have big ballz to come in here asking stupid ass questions like that.
I used to think HJ was an ass after reading 90% of his post saying the just use search and read ...but its people like you who bring me back to reality ...your an idiot and you are the reason people will get banned ...please never post again ...read it figure it out or turn your computer off and never turn it back on.
For god sake your questions have been answered ...you say you only had the forums set for the last couple of days? ...then wtf did you post? How about adding to someone elses question instead of saying: SEQ is broken how long has that been? Keys? where are the keys?
Just plain dumb ...and btw if your so sensitive to critizism then get your ass off these boards you KNEW it was coming. If you didn't think it was then you shouldn't be trying to do this at all. This isn't high school where they hold back for slackers ..this is real world programming 101 ...learn it or cancel your account ..MORON.
Honestly, was where you were 5 months ago but I didn't post I read everything till I figured it out. If your too busy to do that wait for one of these guys to release what you a looking for, then compile it yourself and make your own changes ...if you download some of the code and read it you may can figure it out yourself without even posting. MisterSpock figured out how do compile code written for a VS to work in LCC maybe you can figure out how to do it in cobol ...just read it.

Can a mod lock or delete this thread.

I wasnt calling HJ an ass. I did point that out. And I apologise for being a noob. Some of my questions as i mentioned where more general then I want to ask, (I mainly wanted reassurances on what i was thinking was right).

So just let me start fresh. and just ignore this from now on. I have learned my lesson. And flaming doesnt effect me in the least.
