testeqgame.exe was patched yesterday (first time in a little while) if anyone wants to peek at it.

I took an initial look-through of the testeqgame.exe code last night. Didn't have time to fully explore the changes, though.

At this time, there is no indication of any fundamental change to the part of the code that interests us. However, this statement is preliminary at best.

If they decide to go after SEQ or sniffer users, they won't be putting it into testgame anyway. Probably not into eqgame either if they can help it.

Just to be sure, I always check ALL changed executables both on test and on the production side before running any keysniffers. This includes any and all DLL's associated with EQ.

I'm curious about how far you check and how much you can ascertain. Obviously you don't want to go into too much detail though...

For example, let's say they put an extra function into one of the dlls that eqgame calls, that's easy enough to check with dependancy walker or whatever method you wish to use.

Assuming they add some additional code to a pre-existing function, which flags the sniffer then sends the data back inside the eq datastream, is this something you believe we can detect with any level of reliability?

I'm not questioning your methods, just looking for info.

They would have to do some pretty impressive coding to detect maggotboy's sniffer at the moment and even more to detect the kernel driver which lostinspace is working on.

To answer the fundamental question though, it's impossible to say with 100% accuracy whether or not they have sniffer detection code in any patch release. For all we know, that code could be in there right now and silently flagging people. It's very unlikely though.

The #1 way to detect SEQ is to see people demonstrating they know where mobs and traps are, or information about mobs that they have no right to know about.

As has been said before, if you don't want to risk being banned for using SEQ then don't use SEQ. It's really as simple as that. Using SEQ presents you with the classic problem of having information you cannot utilize for fear of being found out that you have the information in the first place. It's the same problem the Brits faced in WW2 when they cracked the Enigma encryption the Germans were using - they couldn't use the information without alerting the Germans that they could crack it.
