Now that NDA has been lifted on PoR Beta, one of the testers released maps he created using the in-game tools.

I took his maps, converted them to SEQ format, trimming out some of the labels that will just get in the way. But I've left his in-game maps as-is as he released them.

In-Game SOE formatted (http://www.llaffer.com/pormaps.zip)

SEQ formatted (http://www.llaffer.com/por_seq_maps.tar.bz2)

Enjoy.

Do you have cvs write access?

Can you commit them?

Possibly release a new tarball for us package maintainers? :-)

I do not have cvs access.

the PoR SEQ maps are in a tar-ball format. Just only includes the new expansions maps.

Also, it doesn't sound like you made the maps and you didn't mention what license they are under. If it's not GPL, even if you had commit access you wouldn't commit them.

The readme.txt in the zip says

All of these maps were created by Obsqura ([email protected] or www.obsservers.com) and are copyright by Sony Online Entertainment. (www.everquest.com)

SNIP

You can download all of the maps that I (Obsqura) created myself with only the tools given to me by EverQuest and Sony Online Entertainment. To download the maps, click here. Please note that you must follow the NDA provided by Sony Online Entertainment below the link.

I cannot find this page on the listed web server. So, general concensus is don't put them into cvs?

Comments on "patching" the new maps into the debian package at build time (ie use pristine map tarball and literall patch in the new maps)?

The site he linked to in the SOE forums that has the link of where I downloaded his original archive is here (http://www.angelfire.com/ak5/scoutz_knivez/eq.htm). Does that help?

If he gives copyright to SOE in the zip, then I won't be distributing them. This map thing has really gotten out of hand... there's just no way we can know what we should do with any particular map. If someone wants to email him and ask for explicit redistribution permission (with attribution of course) then we could roll with it, but without that, I think we should just leave maps to users to pick up on their own.

I contacted the author, email with his real named blocked out follows:

<snip, btw, why to window people top post, I hate that!>

Feel free to redistribute them, but please give credit to me if you
don't edit them, or for the original map design. I am editing the
readme file, to not cause confusion.

<edit>

I've put up the latest version of the mapfiend maps and the showeq maps in the usual places.

Snippet of showeq-maps changelog:

showeq-maps (1.0-5) unstable; urgency=low

* Added PoR maps
* Updated lavastorm.map (Thanks uRit1u2CBBA!)
* Moved package from main to non-free

And a change to the README.Debian, for people interested in helping:

showeq-maps for Debian

I'm looking for current email address to fill in the Author(s) secion of the
copyright file. Please contact be if you are an author of any map. Thanks.

If you find a borked map and want to look for a fix, try uRit1u2CBBA tarball.

If you really want to help out, reportbug the problem so I can update this packa

Note for the SEQ maps, I did remove some labels, but I've altered no lines from the SOE maps that the original author released.
