I wonder if it would be better to get a USB DSL Modem - directly connected to the linux box and...
BA - How much tinkering did you have to do to get it to work?
Found this... comments for an available USB NIC. The things are so inexpensive I'm going to probably just try them until I find one...
That's probably a zone shouter or something. Many events have invisible mobs associated with them, as do traps, atmospherics ("This passage has seen a lot of use" type things).
Winex is nifty. I don't do much with it, but a fellow EQer used to play under Linux as his normal OS.
Judging by the screenshot's recent update, they do continue to keep at it.
SS of EQ...
The short:
Could someone suggest a USB NIC to act as the public (or private) side NIC for a linux firewall box? Would like one with relatively easy driver support, or preferably one already...
Figure out / post the opcode and struct changes on Test and you'd make a few people happy.
Like I said, the problem makes it look like the SEQ box does not see the EQ client/datastream. No spawns, no dots, no undecoded info, no map....
Not even packets counted in the status bar - that...
Could me a number of things. Probably a relatively minor change but at a very base level.
I'm not going to shout that the sky is falling, but it certainly is different than the last several...
This one is interesting because it doesn't get packets at all.
the Pkt stays at 0.
Do not think I've seen that before. Usually it's an opcode change and shows data but not properly.
All is well, now.
I have a custom server scanner and it sees Test, as does the SEQ one. They weren't working for a couple days.
No longer work on Test Server.
Just an observation...
This isn't just the SEQ one here, it's all server scanners - they all show it as Down.
Could be as simple as an IP number change,...
QT took over an hour, I believe. SEQ takes about 10 minutes, IIRC. I usually fire it off and turn away from the machine and it's usually done when I look back.
It's a PIII800 with 512MB RAM.
Not sure if we are thinking of the same patch, but a few months ago they put in a lag reducing patch that was an enormous improvement, particularly for modem users.
Modem users on 70 person raids...
Stoneguy - what does the limit seem to be?
And do you mean char inventory top level slots, or bank slots, or a combination of both?
I've moved things between characters rather extensively and some still crap out, others still do not.
Stripped one down quite a bit.
Some more info: It happens with accounts that are LOY...
Works fine overall but when I zone the zone map does not autoload and my character is not properly detected. Mob and PC names/stats are detected correctly.
This is the text I get:

I play on both live and test servers and test regularly has structure changes that take a while to go live - so SEQ works on one and not the other.
I would like to teach myself what to do when...
I dont know that it will go live -- there's still a few serious issues with it, and they did not mention it in the patch message.
Believe me when I say it will make a *huuuuge* improvement to...
Feature, though needs to be worked out.
It works fine for most of the people I know. Seems like lag increases after you pop back to full screen for some people, others get graphics anomolies. ...
Erm
The Standard Oil / SONY thing is an urban legend.

As far as EQ, I think it's a great game. I think people who complain non stop about it...
I've understood that all spells that have a variable duration (typically due to the NPC getting a resist check every tick) have always been determined on the server side.
Imagine how nice it would...
Only works with some items (none of the ones in this thread), but mana batteries do recharge a lot if things. POSky quest items, for example.
There's a section in the smoothwall manual about how to conduct yourself on a message board when asking for help... it's fantastic.
I'd cut and paste the relevant sections, but I think the people...
errr.
When I requested a speedometer, I meant something really really simple.
Like a three digit number in the lower info bar that frames the main EQ window.
Would be great to be able to...
Was told test was down for hours today - patched over and things aren't working.
Might want to look at it to get a jump on the patch next week.
