ShowEQ 5.2.4 for Live 12/7

Announcing the release of ShowEQ version 5.2.4. This release is compatible with Live Servers as of 12/7. If you are on 5.2.3, this version just cleans up some minor opcodes. Also, the races are regenerated from dbstr_us.txt now. Thanks to ksmith and uRit1u2CBBa figuring this out.

Fetch the new release from the files section of sourceforge, or if you prefer to use anoncvs, sourceforge employs very slow moving hamsters to spin the wheels to update it. I imagine they will have stumbled out of their habitats and run around enough by tomorrow afternoon to get this latest version there. But who knows, sometimes they're just lazy. Who am I to judge them?

To install:

$ tar xjvf showeq-5.2.4.0.tar.bz2
$ cd showeq-5.2.4.0
$ ./configure
$ make
$ make install

If you have problems with ./configure, try:

$ LIBC=gnu ./configure

If you use a package for your distribution, I imagine it will be along shortly.

RPMs are up for FC3 and RHEL4, FC4 isn't done yet, but the FC3 one should work if you don't want to wait til tonight when I should be able to get into my FC4 build box.

Gentoo users can now use emerge to get the latest showeq.

There's a small catch though, they have to have new packages as in "testing" for at least a month before it can be concidered "stable". Due to the nature of the program, that's pretty rare when there isn't an update (5.2.2 lasted 2 months, but that's not normal).

In order to get it from portage, you have to add the following line to /etc/portage/package.keywords:

games-util/showeq ~x86 (or ~amd64, depending on your platform).

Then once that line is in place, you can run :

emerge showeq (after resyncing, of course).

If you're a new install, this should also grab the required dependancies (qt, libpcap, etc.)

This will compile it into /usr/games/bin, so make sure you have that in your patch ahead of /usr/local/bin in case you have any older copies there.

It may take some time to get the maps and configs straightened out with this (this is my first time trying this myself).
