    ShowEQ 5.4 for Live 4/19

    Announcing the release of ShowEQ version 5.4. This release is compatible with Live Servers as of 4/19. If you are on 5.3, you'll notice nothing working. I'd imagine updating might help.

    This version should be as good as the last version as far as I can tell. Actually better, since it has the spell shell fix that I never released before. Anyways, all opcodes were redone.

    Changelog:
    purple (4/19/06)
    ----------------
    + Updated version to 5.4.0.0
    + Fixed opcodes for 4/19 live patch

    purple (3/1/06)
    ---------------
    + Updated version to 5.3.1.0
    + Wired up new larger OP_Action to SpellShell so buffs cast by you are seen
    + Fixed light and gm in spawnStruct
    Fetch the new release from the files section of sourceforge, or if you prefer to use anoncvs, take a nap Rip Van Winkle style and when you wake up, anoncvs will be updated, I promise.

    To install:
    $ tar xjvf showeq-5.4.0.0.tar.bz2
    $ cd showeq-5.4.0.0
    $ ./configure
    $ make
    $ make install
    If you have problems with ./configure, try:
    $ LIBC=gnu ./configure
    If you use a package for your distribution, I imagine it will be along shortly.

    Interesting...did you fix something in the configure script? I didn't have to do the "GNU=libc" trick to get it to go this time.

    Nope. I didn't touch it. I may have upgraded something on my dev box I guess though since I keep it up to date to Gentoo's x86 stable.

    Seems to be a change in performance. F8 targeting no longer selects the skittle on the map. It stays on anything manually selected from the mob list.

    Maybe there's a setting that changed during the upgrade as well. That's just what's happening to me now.

    Re: ShowEQ 5.4 for Live 4/19

    Fedora Core 3, Fedora Core 4, and RHEL4 RPMs are now available at http://fedora.showeq.org

    Enjoy.

    FC5 packaging is on my todo list, but I'm not sure when that will happen. Still haven't installed an FC5 box yet, so, yeah, I'm slacking on that front. I'm also waffling on the continuation of FC3 support. I'd love input on how long people think I should maintain support for distros. FC3 is no longer supported by the Fedora project, though Fedora Legacy Project does maintenance package updates. Any decision on this needs to be balanced against the fact that I have to have a trusted box where I can do the build on, so obviously I can't really keep a huge number of active distros before I run out of hardware.

    Has nothing to do with performance. The opcode for TargetMouse is incorrect. In your zoneopcodes.xml file, find OP_TargetMouse and change it from 39c6 to 38c6. I just fatfingered typing in the opcode.

    This will be fixed in the next release.

    I think I recall Gentoo pushing an update for GCC recently.

    Question, I use Fedora Core 4 and I've always followed Purple's instruction on installing but do I also need to use CeleSEQ's file that is posted? I always have done both but just want to know if I need to do them both.

    No, one or the other. If you use the base tarball, your package manager won't be managing showeq. If you use the distribution specific package, then your normal package manager will be able to manage showeq.

    When you upgrade your managed packages, they will clean up the old version. When you just use the tarball, you're responsible for cleaning up and such. If you ever switch between the two, the tarball might end up leaving stuff around you don't expect.

    For the most part, the trade off is speed vs ease of use. The tarball comes out first and you may have to wait while someone finishes the packages. But having a deb or rpm makes installation easier, especially with dependencies.

    Re: ShowEQ 5.4 for Live 4/19

    The files I post are just a compiled version of Purple's release, packaged for RedHat. I don't like unpackaged software on my system, it makes things messy sometimes. If you're building from source, then when you the "make install" command, it will install in /usr/local/, and since /usr/local/bin comes first in the default $PATH for root, you'll always be running your custom version, because when you type showeq, it will run /usr/local/bin/showeq. My packages install (intentionally) in /usr since that's where prepackaged software should go (eg. the main binary is /usr/bin/showeq).

    So if you're going to build from source anyway, don't bother installing my rpms. If you find building your own to be a pain, grab my build and you won't need to do any compiling, but at the cost of waiting til I get the new ones built after a release (usually about a day).

    Oh, and I've released a second build of 5.4.0.0 with the OP_TargetMouse patched so that f8 targetting will select properly. It's up at http://fedora.showeq.org
