I've downloaded the new libEQ.a file, md5sumed it to check it, and then went on to download the newest CVS and get this error during compiling SEQ.

/usr/lib/qt-2.3.2/include/qevent.h:290: internal error: Segmentation fault

It appears to be my system, so I will just do a linux rebuild and start from scratch

Tried to recompile qt itself and got the error, only reason i'm going to rebuild.

Could be failing hardware.

I think I got a similar error when I tried to do the compile in a terminal window inside of X. Try exiting your X environment before you compile.

Don't know if it will work, but at least it is something to try.

Edit: also, make sure you have all of those packages installed...

Re-installed and still get this error, what does this mean?

JustACoder

I'm going to try installing SEQ with what seems to be a precompiled version of QT3.... will write back with results

<bump> doesn't work, what's the issue with the errors?

How much RAM do you have? There were some threads a while back about compiles failing due to lack of RAM. How big is your swap space? Have you tried compiling from the command line? Does it always bomb in the same place?

JustACoder

bombs it different spots everytime, I can't remember how much ram I had before upgrade but it worke dthen and I only put in more ram, and my swap space I don't know, i'm rebuilding once again how big should it be?

http://seq.sourceforge.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=323&highlight=swap+size

I found this link searching for swap size... heres the setup I used..
I have 2 harddrives....

HDA - 1.9gb
/ - 1.9 gb

HDB - 9.5gb
/swap - 243 mb
/var - 1.5gb
/usr - 2.5gb
/home - 5.2gb

Is this going to be an okay setup?

Thread support........................ yes
GIF support............................. no
MNG support........................... no
JPEG support........................... no
OpenGL support...................... no
NAS sound support.................. no
Session management.............. yes
Xft support (Anti-Aliased Fonts).. yes
XKB support ............................. yes

Creating makefiles...
Qt is now configured for building. Just run make.
To reconfigure, run make clean and configure.

Do those no's mean anything?

Hmm, bombing in different places really suggests RAM or some other resource issue. Can you boot to the command line instead of a window manager, and try to compile there?

JustACoder

Read above, it wasn't different I guess, forgot I was compiling diff. qt's. first tried 2.3.2 and then 3.0.5.

the above error it's 2.3.2

That's your machine, not the code.

I have to agree with Mongo, Coder. I am pretty much convinced this is a hardware issue. Are you overclocking? Does your system get proper ventilation? Is it a laptop that may be trying to go to sleep or suspend mode? Is a screensaver causing it to crash? Are you doing anything else while it's compiling? I'm just trying to eliminate some variables.

JustACoder
11-27-2002, 09:49 PM
hmm, I leave the screensaver running but it never kicks in during compile, and i'm not overclocking it, this is just a spare comp that I don't want to bother with overclocking it, all the same I might just end up getting my other box running and put linux on it and check to see if that'll work... what would ventilation have to do with it working nicely? I have my boxes on the floor and one of them has a case open and ... hmm i'll shutup I realized that's action packed with issues, i'll be moving that onto my desk soon.

JustACoder

opening the box up to take alook at ram. will get back to you on that one.

JustACoder
11-28-2002, 12:22 PM
had 3 pc100 128 sticks, one of them value ram, and i've been playign with value ram fora while and they are picky as to what they like to group with, I think I remember somewhere along the way you can only use value ram when using them.

EDIT:
Running compile so far it is running but only for a couple minutes.

EDIT:
So far a success it seems to have flown by the part that it always locked up on, I will report back if I have any errors or if it finishes with a success. So far it's great, thank you all for helping.

make[3]: *** [kernel/qprinter_x11.o] Error 1

and then the leaving directory stuff....

but new error on different ram

going to swap that piece out for another 128 and try it with that.

EDIT:
new ram = new error

kernel/qpalette.cpp: In constructor 'QPalette::Qpaltte(const QColorGroup&, const QColorGroups, const QColorGroup&)':

Found out recently that my father put a different vid card in there, taking that out (it's a voodoo 3 card) and putting the old one back in (nameless)

is there a snowballs chance in hell for this machine or should i move onto another box and install winbloez on this?

Dedpoet

All sings point to hardware, Coder. I would really try the other box - it sounds like the one you're building on has issues.
