you mean to tell me that the only help you can give somebody new to linux is, and i quote "READ THE FAQ OR SEARCH FOR THE HOWTOS" thats bloody lousy. no wonder there's not many poeple willing to give up gorilla bills microcrap and convert to a linux geek. poeple like you make others who arn't as wisened in the ways of linux so discaruaged. oh but i forgot you had to learn it all by your little itty bitty tweety bird self, right. so you figure someone else should have to do the same work you did. hell why don't you go out and invent the wheel, allllll over agian. enough of this nonsense.

anyhow, if you want to load all the qt libraries in linux 8.0... wait you know what just accured to me... he didn't answer your question because he doesn't know the answer... hmmm. most likely anyway... alright back on track. slap that little white covered disk back into your cup holder and let her rip. when it askes to run the Autoloader thingamabob, say "Yes". now your package manager should start up and ask if you want to load new packages. click foward. now another screen comes up with a bunch of other stuff that you can place a check mark in... now scroll down till you see "Development", check that box. Then Scroll down a little more till you see "KDE" click that check box... then click install... walla. anyways thats the easiest way to do since i cant find a way to select QT by itself unless you want to do it manually with RPM. later happy tuxing...

p.s. oh and i don't care weather or not i can spell, think of something more creative if you desire to respond......

for every smart a** theres a dumb a**

Ask a question that has been answered many times before (or is in the FAQ) expect to get flamed.

Now as to your next "problem" I don't see one. You should have the SEQ GUI up. All you need to do is make sure it is pointed at the right IP to look for EQ and that your network is properly setup (answered in the FAQ).

The reason why people do that is because these questions have been answered a million times.

The reason people dont want to switch from MicroCrap is because:

1. Windows is easy. All they have to do is to click on an icon on the desktop to do what they want. It takes about the brain power of an ameoba to operate. Anything people dont know, they bother the people who do know. Do you know how many times I have told my sister how to change the background picture on her desktop? The problem is that nobody wants to learn anything. Everyone wants it handed to them.

2. The manufacturers of software will never switch over to linux. There just isnt profit to be made from it.

3. People dont want to switch because it sometimes actually requires you to use your brain installing stuff and then using it again to find how to get it to operate properly. And yes, sometimes it requires quite a bit of brain power and research on how to get a program to operate in linux.

4. If linux actually did start to gain a market share, Im sure MS would try to put a stop to it. It already has done some feable attempts to put an end to linux.

Please dont give us the "Holier than Thou" routine when you have only one post to your name. After you have posted a couple hundred times helping people, have done it for several years, and arent tired of answering the same questions over and over again, then you can use your "Holier than Thou" crap. When you can do that, you will be a better man than I am.

Make sure that the hub you get isnt really a switch. There are several threads that list good hubs to get.

As for the showeq.xml file, I dont remember if it creates it when you first log in, if you need to copy the default one into the directory, or if it installs it when you install seq. All it is is a set of defaults that ShowEQ uses. Not having it shouldnt affect anything (except maybe saving your defaults if you change something and if it doesnt create it itself).

First let me say that I am a women and know next to nothing about Redhat or programing of any kind. I was not only able to install both 7.2 and 8.0 and make them work by reading the boards and the FAQ's here with out help! If I can do it then anyone could do it. :p

The guys here flame me plenty and some times I guess I should be flamed lol. but I am starting to see everyones out look on people that are to lazy to SEARCH and READ! ;)

Still having the same problem !
( sorry i m not a woman )

so i decide to this :
[]# cd /seq/showeq
[]# make distclean
[]# cvs -d:pserver:[email protected]:/cvsroot/seq login
[]# cvs -z3 update
[]# cvs -d:pserver:[email protected]:/cvsroot/seq logout
[]# export CC=gcc3
[]# export CXX=g++3
[]# export QTDIR=/usr/lib/qt-2.3.2
[]# make -f Makefile.dist
[]# ./configure
[]# make
[]# make install

everythink working fine , maybe only this warning
at make command
[warning: libstdc++.so.5, needed by /usr/lib/qt-2.3.2/lib/libqt-mt.so, may conflict with libstdc++.so.3

reloading this Showeq
[]# export QTDIR=/usr/lib/qt-2.3.2
[]# cd /usr/local/bin
[]# ./showeq eth0 --ip-address=192.168.123.151

and i still have the same message as before !

These are not errors. This is normal behavior for ShowEQ. It is unable to open the showeq.xml file because that file is only created if you save your settings from the File menu in the program. It could not load the guilds file because it has not received it yet. The server only sends that file when necessary, and if it hasn't done it yet, you will not have it. It's not a huge deal, it only means you won't see guild tags on players until it is sent. The error opening map is always there when you start Seq. Since your player isn't in a zone, it doesn't know which map to load. When you zone, it will find the correct map.

As for your other problem about ShowEQ not popping - have you zoned since you started the program? It won't do anything until it sees a new zone packet. Also make sure you have the "create unknown spans" option checked on the Options Menu, and right-click on the map, and pick "unkown spawns" from the "Show" menu. If you don't do that, Seq won't show anything, since everything is unknown unless you are running a key sniffer. Without a key sniffer, every spawn will be unknown and you will only have maps and white unknown dots on your screen. I direct you to the key sniffer forum for more info on that.

If using RedHat, 8.0 is the best. It works right out of the box if you install the proper packages listed in the guides. All you have to do is install RedHat, get libEQ.a, get and compile SEQ, and you're done.

It sounds to me like you have a networking problem if you are not seeing anything at all. Are you sure that your hub is not a switch? What is the brand and model number? Do you have the uplink port of your hub plugged into a regular (NOT uplink) port of your router? Do you then have both your EQ and ShoEQ computers plugged into that hub? Does the hub have an uplink button? Is it pushed in or out?

Almost everyone who has this problem has it because their hub is a switch and SEQ can't see EQ packets across a switch.

Please read my post a few above yours. All mobs will be shown as unknowns (assuming you have "Create Unknown Spawns" checked in the Options menu and "Show Unknowns" checked if you right click on the map). To see what the mobs are, you need to run a key sniffer on your EQ computer. There is a whole forum for that called "ShowEQ Key Sniffer Utilities".

Click me (http://seq.sourceforge.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2491).

Thks Dedpoet , i ve try what y said
but thats the only way to display somethink , i get Unknow everywhere
but i see the mobs ans player as Unknow without any information on it !
the map work great ).

i think all is not decoded correctly
i ve read about sniffer and i think that s what i need to decoded all correctly, or ?

But how can i install sniffer ?
i ve read near the whole thread and nothing for newbie like me

how does it work exactly ?

do i need to install a software on my PC running EQ with XP Pro ?

do i need to compile somethink on the PC running ShowEQ with linux ?

Do i need to configure the decode menu on the ShowEQ Software ?

i don t know where to begin to set ShowEQ working completly !

Can anyone explain me just in few line ( or more ) how does it work ?

Thanks you again.

Personally, I use Maggotboy's code, which is in this (http://seq.sourceforge.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2479) thread. The first post includes all directions on compiling it and getting it to work.

And yes, everything will be unknown until you install a sniffer.
