This from the EQ Live website:
On Wednesday, April 23rd, at 3AM PDT, (11AM GMT), all EverQuest servers will be brought down for a scheduled patch.
The estimated downtime is 6 hours.

- The EverQuest Operations Team

This patch should fix a number of lag related issues currently in the game.

---

When they put in that extra code last time to break SEQ (witch caused lag, not fix it) didn't they say that would "fix a number of lag related issues currently in the game"?

Not sure if we are thinking of the same patch, but a few months ago they put in a lag reducing patch that was an enormous improvement, particularly for modem users.

Modem users on 70 person raids went from being virtually unable to play to having so little lag that it they had no delay at all in actions.

Going from 10 position updates/sec to 5 updates/sec, and holding back updates until they can be combined with more data, while reducing bandwidth, increases lag tremendously, unless you were sucking through a very thin (modem) straw. The lack of health bar updates for mobs (workaround: toggle target away and back) was a particularly nice touch.

The bandwidth limiting (fewer updates) should be voluntary - those of us who aren't bandwidth-challenged should be allowed to get the same amount of updates as before. Of course, it seems like perhaps Sony is saving a little money on bandwidth themselves.

Further patches to the netcode were needed. It was broken. I'm not sure yet if they've improved anything yet, though.
