Hello All,

I just did a full install of REDHAT 9.. (took 4 1/2 hours)
and i have a couple of questions..

1. i do not have a gcc3, i do a gcc -v and it shows 3.2.2
do i still need to edit the:

edit the file "mkspecs/linux-g++/qmake.conf and change all
references to "gcc" to "gcc3" as well as "g++" to "g++3"
(lines 12, 27, 47, and 48). save your changes (ctrl-o, ctrl-x)

2. the install did not put the following on
the system:

kernel-headers
libstdc++3
libstdc++3-devel

is this of a concern when i try and compile showeq 5.x
or should i go and grab them from teh rpm website

thanks

You have gcc 3.2.2. With Redhat9 Full install, SEQ 4.3.18 or 5.0.0 should compile out of the box no changes what-so-ever required.

I actually did some clean-up of the FAQ today and took out that exact line since I figured it's not needed anymore. Only people running very old distros will not have gcc3, and those people have likely been around long enough to know what's involved. Seems like the standard answer to the gcc and qt version problems lately are "install Red Hat 9 or Mandrake 9" anyway. All the gcc3 versioning stuff is just confusing people. I think it's mostly obsolete.

The account that the FAQ is hosted on has had its password changed, but as soon as I get the new one, the updated FAQ will be up.

Like S_B_R said, RH9 works straight out of the box.

My redhat 8 died the other day so i got RH9 and installed it last night (about 90 mins) and installed SEQ on it and ran first time.
No Errors.
I did do a complete install of RH9.
