If you expect to build from the tarball you need qt development libraries, not just the runtime.

It looks like from that dependency chain you got a lot of installing to do. I got absolutely no idea how to use ubuntu (or debian, or apt or dpkg). If I did emerge qt on my gentoo box, it would have just installed that big list of dependencies because I asked it for qt, so I must want qt. Maybe there's some commandline argument to dpkg that says "no seriously, I want what I asked for. Do whatever it takes."

Let apt and my work resolve Build-Depends for you.

Add this to /etc/apt/sources.list

deb-src ftp://ftp.real-time.com/linux/real-time-debpool sid custom main

And yes, use sid as the distro, we are just getting the source and sid vs breezy vs hoary is very small at the source code level

# apt-get update
# apt-get build-dep showeq

This will download and install all the packages from ubuntu for building showeq, now:

% cd /tmp
% tar -xjvf showeq-x.y.z.tar.bz2
% cd showeq-x.y.z
% ./configure --blah --foo --ick
% make -j100
% sudo make install

Purple: yup thats what i was looking for a parameter in dkpg that would force it do whatever it takes to install qt-del lib ;)

Tanner: I added the sid source in sources.list file..actually bellow is all the sources i have uncommented in that file

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ breezy universe
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-security main restricted
deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-security main restricted

deb ftp://ftp.real-time.com/linux/real-time-debpool breezy custom
deb-src ftp://ftp.real-time.com/linux/real-time-debpool breezy custom

deb-src ftp://ftp.real-time.com/linux/real-time-debpool sid custom main

and here is what happens :)

:/$ sudo apt-get build-dep showeq
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Package libxext-dev is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package libxext-dev has no installation candidate
E: Failed to satisfy Build-Depends dependency for showeq: libxext-dev

hehe i am rather disapointed with my linux skills by now..but hey i just installed it 3 days ago :) btw Ubuntu is really good!

Thanks for all the answers guys.
