Hello folks,

I've run into a snag updating ShowEQ and wondering if anyone's able to assist. I'm quite the novice when it comes to Linux.

I usually use synaptic to update from Tanner's repository, but since his server is down I'm attempting to use the package he uploaded to the CVS. I managed to get the showeq_5.8.0.0-1_i386.deb file onto my Debian box, and for lack of knowing the best place to put it I dropped it in /root/showeq_5.8.0.0-1_386/

Flying blind here and mimicing my usual repository, I attempted to add the following line to my repository list:
file:///root/showeq_5.8.0.0-1_386/ sarge custom main non-free contrib
When I tried to refresh my package list, the following was displayed:
file:///root/showeq_5.8.0.0-1_386/dists/sarge/custom/binary-i386/Packages.gq: File not found
file:///root/showeq_5.8.0.0-1_386/dists/sarge/main/binary-i386/Packages.gq: File not found
file:///root/showeq_5.8.0.0-1_386/dists/sarge/non-free/binary-i386/Packages.gq: File not found
file:///root/showeq_5.8.0.0-1_386/dists/sarge/contrib/binary-i386/Packages.gq: File not found

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

My ftp server bit the big one and died. I'm still restoring it. The .deb files are on sourceforge.

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=10131

NOTE: I did not make debian sarge packages at this time.

How can you tell what release a .deb belongs to? What should people who normally use debian packages but cannot right now do in the interim? Switch to tarball?

As I said, I downloaded your file from SF, Tanner. I just don't know how to install it properly. I also tried doing this:
dpkg -i showeq_5.8.0.0-1_i386.deb
but it complained of quite a few dependencies and then quit.
What's the ramifications of not making a debian sarge package?

the ramifications are that it might not be built with a compatible version of GCC, the right names and versions to certain dependencies, etc...

How can you tell what release a .deb belongs to?

5.8.x.x-y.deb = sid/unstable
5.8.x.x-y~etch.deb = etch/testing
5.8.x.x-y~sarge.deb = sage/stable

What should people who normally use debian packages but cannot right now do in the interim? Switch to tarball?

Switch to redhat or gentoo.

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
showeq: Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.6-6) but 2.3.2.ds1-22sarge4 is to be installed
Depends: libgcc1 (>= 1:4.1.1-12) but 1:3.4.3-13sarge1 is to be installed
Depends: libpcap0.8 (>= 0.9.3-1) but 0.8.3-5 is to be installed
Depends: libqt3-mt (>= 3:3.3.7) but it is not installable
Depends: libstdc++6 (>= 4.1.1-12) but it is not installable

ugh, sorry to hear about your ftp server tanner!

Are you going to put showeq-maps-3.8 back in there? While I was bring my seq up to date with 5.8, I wanted to grab the latest maps as well, but I couldn't find them anywhere in your ftp server or elsewhere online.

Thanks!

do you have tar.gz's available for your maps distribution? I've given up trying to figure it out. I don't have a debian based distribution. Using SuSE.
