Was wackin some bears the other night, and poped up the combat window to see what my max hits where, and was curious as to how to calculate my DPS for the evening...

At the bottom of the screen, I see:

avg melee 112
avg special 120
avg nonmelee 122

So is my total dps the total of those 3 values? 354 ?

Average special, is average damage from procs, damage shields
I guess you get the idea.

Total DPS would be all of those, but I look at it differently.
A spell caster, DPS is their total spell damage.
A Melee, its thier total melee damage.

I do not count, DoT's, Procs or Damage Shields.

DPS should be based on the Raw Physical score and not include the non-consistent variables.

That way you can compare and contrast previous scores, without factoring in unknown, non persisitent variables. it is a True Score.
