Currently have a WinXP box, with VMware and Redhat 7.2. I dont have a hub. I have a PPOE DSL connection on an internal DSL Modem and I have another computer sharing this connection thru a patch cable from my network card. Is it possible to setup ShowEQ on this system? I dotn need to know how per se, just want to know if its possible before I start :) Thanks guys!

There are a couple of problems with your setup.

1) VMWare is a bitch, althought I think a few people have it working.
2)PPOE != TCP/IP, so ShowEQ doesnt know how to sniff PPOE packets (they have different headers/etc).

Generally, I would say no, your setup will now work for ShowEQ.

assuming you don't want to buy an external dsl modem and that drivers for that internal dsl modem don't exist in linux... your best bet would probably be to throw together a crappy ass windows box as the gateway (to take the place of your current real computer) and just put both the winblows and linux box behind that crappy windows ICS (or some other nat software for windows).

it isn't the prettiest... but it would work :)

You missed the VMWare part of that fryfrog... The linux box == the windows box.

As far as I know, PPOE will not work using the bridged networking on VMWare. I believe you need to have either a router or another pc with ICS or NAT.
