    Unhappy Is Redhat quitting?

I just got an email and it sounds like Redhat is not going to make Linux.

Complete text of the mass Email can be found on NewForge.

Basically, the consumer grade RedHat Linux is now going to be available under the "Fedora Project" moniker...

I hated Linux when it first came out. It was buggy and a pain to install and maintain. I grew up in the UNIX world on AIX and later HPUX then Sun. So many of you understand my distaste with early Linux distros.

A friend of mine got me hooked on EQ then SEQ. I was amazed at how easy RH 6.2 was to install and each distro got easier to install and update. I loved having RHN access to patches and fast downloads. Sorry to see it going away.

I may give Fedora a shot or maybe Mandrake.

I would be interested in others thoughts on where they plan to land after 30 April 2004.

Figures, I finally got my Red Hat box set up just the way I like it...

Well, now I guess it's a good time to finally go the way of Debian or maybe even Gentoo.

From the information available on the Fedora site it looks like nothing has really changed. In fact they seem to be saying that you will still be able to use "up2date" to update your Fedora install. Also there is talk of a "Fedora Legacy" (or soemthing to that effect) team that will be producing Errata even after official support stops.

Anyway, I will give Fedora a shot forsure. If that doesn't work out I'll switch to Gentoo... SuSE might be an alternative too.

Ouch. I have been using RH 7.2 a long time, and its pretty damn stable.

Has anyone had any experience with Mandrake 9.2? It's their latest and a friend recommended it to me. Is it friendly to SEQ?

More like, if you can't beat them, buy them.

And in SCO's case, if you still can't beat them, commit commercial suicide by trying to litigate a fraudulent and unwinable case against IBM.
