Looks like the problem is that it isn't getting all the packets and so it can't keep a sync with the zone. See what happens if you increase the SeqArqGiveUp value. If upping it doesn't work then you possibly have faulty/dieing hardware (either the NIC in the linux box, or the hub on your network).

i have exactly the same problem. relatively consistently... if i stay in any zone for a while, synch is lost and everything new goes unknown. (see t'unknown spawn thread)
superstiticon says it's to do with how long seq has been running (if only because everytime i restart with logging, the problem becomes less visible).

seqarqgiveup values up to 1024 have no effect, and the problem is consistent with eq-only traffic, or with eq-traffic + 40k/s downloads.

i guess the next test is to replace the hub - but i'd expect little things like eq to notice dying hardware too.

You are right, EQ would (and is if the hub is really the cause) noticing. The problem is that ShowEQ can't request anything that it misses where as EQ can. It is just part of how tcp/ip works. Of course, there is UDP stuff as well... so who knows exactly how the symptoms would present themselves.

Dying NIC/HUB would manifest itself as packet loss, burps and lags in EQ. With all the prediction and lag reducers in EQ, however, the problem would not be immediately noticable on a small scale.

With SEQ, though, since it needs to keep track of all the data, and the fact that it does not have the same prediction and lag reducers as EQ does... as well as the fact that it can't keep track of MOBs the same way EQ does and the problem is much more pronounced in SEQ than it would be in EQ.

Odd because everything worked perfectly until 12/19. I'll run some tests on the nic and hub tho anyway.

i also lose sync after awhile of being in the same zone using 5.0.3

According to my testing, I am seeing no packet loss whatsoever on the hub. I also replaced the NIC (PCMCIA) and see the same problem.

    I'll keep working on it.

Oh and what about the out of order fragment messages? Would that be caused by the same thing... packet loss?

    It's possible.

Another thing to consider is that the machine you are running SEQ on might be too slow to keep up with the datastream and is dropping packets for some reason.

800 mhz celeron laptop with 320MB of RAM. SuSe 9.1 (yeah I know, RPM based distro but hey I compile most stuff anyway lol). Runs really snappy under Linux.

Again, things were great until the 12/19 patch.

Oh, I also tried compiling Seq 4 from CVS. Runs great but exact same problem.

I find it to be a strange coincidence that this starts happening right on the dot with the 12/19 patch. Of course that is possible... so... next step is to see how seq handles itself under my [email protected]. If that's too slow, well then maybe I'll start working on code optimization for yas

    Happy holidays!

That should be more than adequate to handle the datastream.

You might check your cabling as well.
The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and riffle their pockets for new vocabulary.

OK fresh install of Fedora Core 1... P4 @3.4Ghz... new out of box netgear 10-base hub that I never used because it's only 10-base... different nic of course... and the 7ft. cable that came with it.

    Compiled 5.0.0.3. Same problem.

Gonna wipe and try 4.3.19 now. Will post the results.

Info: Loaded 7705 message strings from '/usr/local/share/showeq/eqstr_us.txt' maxFormat=44408
Looks like your using an OLD File there.

Did you copy over new eqstr_us.txt and spells_us.txt? Yours looks old because you are only reading in 7700+ and I get over 9212 message strings ...
